Venue Region:
North West England
Town:
Burnley
Summary:
If the tour of the building had been a little shorter the children may have finished their books at the venue. Unfortunately they had a lot of work to do back at school to finish them (which they didn;t mind but curriculum time is tight). The author was interesting and kept most of the children engaged.
Venue:
Towneley Hall Burnley, Lancashire
Lovely building - this author was using the centre as a base for the course (Creeping Toad Company). No seating area for the children indoors for lunch. Had to sit on the floor in the class teaching area or outside.
Benefit:
The children explored the building to gather ideas for their story. Using question prompts, who, what, where etc they built up a basi plan of an adventure/mystery story. These ideas were then put into a zig zag style book using both pictures and writing. It linked perfectly with the class English unit on mystery stories.
Plus points:
A fun and intersting way to present the child's story - use of doors and windows, paper effects and images and text make it pleasing to the eye and inspire those who find writing a challenge.
Minus points:
No where to sit and eat lunch
