Summary:
The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed their day at The Old Hall. Whilst it was informative, interactive and fun, it related closely with the National Curriculum and supported the work that we had done in school.
Venue:
Gainsborough Old Hall
Very well organised and friendly staff on arrival and during the visit
Benefit:
Children were able to experience first hand what life was like in Tudor times through a guided tour of the hall and gardens. They were shown the bedrooms and particularly enjoyed finding out what the beds were made from and the toilet arrangments! Pupils explored the kitchens and prepared a banquet for King Henry putting 'play' bread in the ovens and stirring things in the pot above the fire etc. They then all dressed up and acted as characters from the banquet- the jesters, the dancers, King Henry, the Nobles and Earls etc- some children playing instruments and some with speaking parts !! Every child had something to do and participated in some way.
Plus points:
Very interactive and well paced for Key Stage 2 children (We took Year 3 and 4 children)
Lots of time for all of the questions and answers!
