Summary:
Very good taught sessions delivered by properly trained art teachers with great subject knowledge.
Venue:
Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery
We took Y9s to look at William Morris, William De Morgan and Islamic tiles as part of a project on repeat patterns. The museum employs properly trained art teachers to run sessions with school groups, and this makes the visit well worth while. Our guide, Tricia Peate was extremely knowledgable, was very good with the whole range of personalities & abilities in Y9, and differentiated her approach accordingly. We took the whole year group (5 classes) for 1/2 day sessions each over 3 days. It was hard work organising so many individual visits (necessary because the museum will not accommodate more than 30 at a time), but it was worth while because of the quality of the taught sessions.
Benefit:
Relevant to all key stages of art curriculum. Pupils enthused by visit at the start of their project. Museum staff willing to devise programmes to fit in with your requirements
Plus points:
Excellent taught sessions. Knowledgable staff. Easy to get to.
Minus points:
Can only accommodate 30 at a time. Need to book a long time in advance.
