Gallery visit to The Lowry, Salford

by msbarton on 21st January 2009
Department:
Art and Design
Year Group:
Key Stage 3
Venue Region:
North West England
Town:
Salford Quays
Summary:
A good art venue for Y7s. An enjoyable visit.
Venue: The Lowry
We take Y7s every year to visit the Lowry. They spend 1 hour looking round the gallery, 1 hour sketching the interesting architecture around Salford Quays & have 1 hour free time in the very safe & enclosed designer shopping outlet (the highlight of their day)! The gallery is very accommodating in accepting such large groups (up to 50 pupils at a time), and pupils are allowed to wander the galleries freely. As well as the large collection of Lowry paintings & drawings (which is more interesting than you might expect) there are visiting exhibitions. There is a gift shop with lots of Lowry souvenirs which our Y7s always enjoy, and a cafe - which we always enjoy.
Benefit:
relevant to all key stages in art
Plus points:
Very accomodating & student-friendly environment. Good for large groups. Great location with interesting architecture for sketching outside & small enclosed shopping centre for free time.
Minus points:
It helps if you like Lowry
Overall:
