History
Year Group:
Key Stage 2
Venue Region:
Wales
Town:
Caerleon
Summary:
Excellent for knowledge & understanding of Romans-Caerleon was an important Roman fortress on banks of River Usk and the visit includes the comprehensive Museum with plenty of different worksheets, schools' centre for workshops such as Saturnalia or pottery plus reconstruction of a Roman soldiers' bunkhouse with lots of armour etc to try on and bunks to climb on , a restored Bath house, impressive remains of amphitheatre-still a good shape and very good for marching like Romans or drama activities if the ground is not too muddy and archaeological remains of barracks. The staff (National Museum of Wales) are excellent and arrange the whole day carefully with plenty of input to the children. There are lunch eating areas and toilets available too.
