Ski Trip to Austria

by woody on 23rd April 2009
Department:
Cross Curricular
Year Group:
Key Stage 3
Venue Region:
Austria
Summary:
The trip was fantastic. As it was my first ski trip to organise, I was expecting a lot of things to go wrong, but because of all the support from every area, it went very smoothly. The food was good, the children enjoyed it, which makes a huge difference. The skiing was nearly top notch, we maybe might go in the Feb half term instead as the snow is much better then.
I really recommend taking children on a ski trip, yes there is a high risk, but it is so worth it when you see the children literally mature in front of your eyes.
Tour Operator: PGL
Were very good at answering all the queries that we had. They were very quick at getting back to us with their answers.
Venue: Hochjoch/Montafon
The ski school staff were fantastic, the ski hire were very efficient and helpful.
Accommodation: Central Hotel Lowen
Overall a really friendly hotel with very helpful staff. The supported and understood all our needs as a school trip.
Transport: Hardings
The bus drivers were very good at taking us to and from the destinations with a smile and enhancing the trip with their sense of humour
Benefit:
Alot of these children have never skied before, or even left the country before, so it was great to see them develop physically, mentally and emotionally. It was alot of activity throughout the week, we also promoted eating healthily so that they were able to keep up with the extensive exercise that skiing is.
Plus points:
Good food in the hotel restaurant.
Very good ski school as staff are so enthusiastic
There is a park near the town centre which was great to take the children to just chill and play football etc.
The back of the hotel leads to the pedestrianised area of the town, so it's safe to let pupils roam and explore the town.
Minus points:
There isnt a large conference room in the Hotel, so it limited some of the activities we wanted to do in the evenings, e.g. Bingo night, party night etc.
Busy road at the front of the hotel.
Overall:
