Soil detectives

by on 21st November 2008
Department:
Science
Year Group:
Key Stage 2
Venue Region:
South East England
Town:
Lullingstone
Summary:
I would thouroughly recommend this centre for environmental projects, especially as it is so close to the Lullingstone Roman Villa which has recently been moderised. They do a variety of events - river study, settlements, soil detective, and local area.
Venue: Lullingstone Visitors centre Eynsford
The children had a great time looking at different soil types and finding out who had committed the crime -
was it the lady in the shop, the ranger at the park of the centre manager?
Accommodation: Lullingstone Visitors centre
A very friendly centre with a lovely coffee shop. The grounds are great with rolling hills with plenty of places to go walkling
Benefit:
This linked in with a science topic on soils and geography and finding out about our locality
Plus points:
We were very lucky because the weather was great .... very sunny autumn day! The shop is ideal for young children as they have lots of things tio buy at pocket money prices ... under £3. The cafe is excellent and I would recommend the hot chocolate with fothy cream on top! You can visit this centre free if you are a member of the public. school trip costs are £2.75 per child. It has good views of the Darenth valley and is very near to the Lullingstone Roman Villa (15 minutes walk along the river) The staff are very friendly
Minus points:
This centre is ideal with good weather. They do have a classroom if the weather is wet though! the car psrk is fairly small.
Overall:
