Benefit:
Fantastic opportunities to study and use French in real life situations (buying lunch in market for competition, buying postcards and stamps); also to take part in active history lesson (re-enacting resistance and German soldiers) and an art lesson in the village. We also spend a day in Paris visiting Sacre Coeur and the Eiffel Tower.
Plus points:
We found the area around Place du Tertre is a good place to let relatively young students explore in small groups. It is very contained, almost traffic-free and is a fairly gentle introduction. Also, the Eiffel Tower is always very popular with students. As an activity, our students loved being put into groups and sent off to market to buy lunch. The groups were then judged on this.
Minus points:
The walk to Place du Tertre can be a little scary. There are lots of street sellers and it is a very busy area. Staff need to walk very closely to students and make sure they are well prepared for this walk.
