theatre visit to hampstead

by hugh lynch on 27th November 2008
Department:
Drama
Year Group:
Key Stage 4
Venue Region:
London
Town:
Hampstread
Summary:
on paper the prospect sounded dry - rarely-performed Brecht,Hampstead. However, it was an unforgettable day. friendly people in evidence all day. A wonderful theatre, great sight-lines. Go there if you get the chance. I now have year 10 pupils who are willing to go to see experimental stuff.
Venue: hampstead theatre
delightful venue; friendly staff, very accommodating box office, great cafe, terrific design and seating
Transport:
rail; very helpful staff at groups division and a wonderfully curious train-guard
Benefit:
a chance to se a rare Brecht play in a production which demonstrated to my students that all the stuff I had told them about Brecht actually works. My Drama group, largely boys and of a wide ability range, are still talking about it two months later and it had got a few of them hooked on theatre-going
Plus points:
great train travel deal, useful downloads and offers of inset from theatre, friendly actors who took time out to speak to the kids afterwards. Good cafe in theatre and a wide range of eateries in nearby high street.
Minus points:
you should check that your selected tube route in London is not affected that day.
Overall:

I agree. Great theatre. If going there, contact them. They usually have very useful education support resource packs. Well organised and nice people to do business with!
