Visit to Westferry Printers / Newspaper Education Trust, East London

by barrie on 11th May 2009
Department:
English
Year Group:
Key Stage 4
Venue Region:
London
Summary:
Only 10 students allowed at any one time so extremely manageable with one teacher. Students split into two groups (V competitive) and have to create a newspaper of their own including Title and price. Students are then given specific roles such as Editor, Entertainment and Features writer. Students then write their own news articles which must include a breaking news item with deadlines looming.
Students are given an A3 colour copy of their 'page' before they leave.
Also part of the package is a tour of the printers itself where students learn how newspapers are produced - Excellent!
Venue: Westferry Printers / Newspaper Education Trust
Very easy to get to on DLR - closest station : West India Quay
Benefit:
Excellent day out for students doing either Media production or English work on Newspapers etc.
Plus points:
Book FREE train tickets in advance from Transport for London.
