Year 3/4 trip to York to study Vikings, Jorvik centre and DIG

by zoe on 17th December 2008
Department:
Primary
Year Group:
Key Stage 2
Venue Region:
East-Midlands
Town:
York
Summary:
Jorvik Viking centre was very good, lots to do and staff were very well informed and experts in their field. It would've been nice if DIG had more Viking related things to do as it tends to cover a wide variety of eras.
Venue: Jorvik Viking Centre
Really well organised, plenty to do, experts to talk to children available throughout the day.
Transport: Ellie Rose
Cheap and reliable
Benefit:
Children could relate to a lot of things learned in school, were able to see real artefacts from Viking times, even fossilised poo!
Plus points:
Lots of hands on activities, plenty to do at Jorvik Viking centre, short walk from DIG, a archaelogical dig for children to discover their own artefacts.
Minus points:
Not many places to eat lunch. we ate outdoors but would've had to find shelter if bad weather.
Overall:
