Summary:
Fun but relaxed. Ideal if you are studying the Romans.
Venue:
Lullingstone Roman Villa
A lovely place to visit to find out about what life was like in Roman Britain in a typical villa.
Benefit:
Runis, a few artefacts and information via display boards and video. Guided talk.
Plus points:
Lots of information boards around the site giving details of what life would have been life. Some artefacts from the period. A good 14 minute video every hour which gives further details of the time period. The whole exhibition is placed around the edge with the villa runis in the middle. We have a fun and informative guided talk about with food tatsing which the children enjoyed. There are a few big and wooly tunics to try on too. The shop is small but has some cheapish items to buy. There are worksheets available that are fairly good for years 3-6.
Minus points:
We had to eat our lunch outside so it's best if you can go in 'dry' weather! You may be able to eat in the teaching room but there was another school there so you may not find that possible.
Consider going before or during your period of study. We went near the end and so didn't have a lot of opportunity to use the data and experiences gained afterwards.
