Year end school trip to Blair Drummond Safari Park

Department:
Music
Year Group:
Key Stage 2
Venue Region:
Scotland
Town:
Stirling
Summary:
Ate snack (went to the toilets). Toured the wildlife reserve (LOTS of reassurance given to screaming girl from an equally nervous teacher). Ate lunch and gave long opportunity to children to play in the playground (due to the windy conditions this teacher decided to wear her coffee!). Went to toilets again then trooped in for the Sea Lion Show (much oohing and aahing ensued). Final frantic rush round the gift shop encouraging indecisive children to choose!! Last toilet visit (just in case) and away. Fabulous!
Venue: Blair Drummond Safari Park
Excellent destination for an end of year trip. Good variety of things to do for all ages. If weather a little inclement there is always the opportunity to 'tour' the wildlife reserve from the comfort of a vehicle, as well as view the indoor 'sea lion show'. Great adventure playground for running off some of that pent up energy!
Benefit:
Opportunity for children to see animals in a more 'natural environment' (less zoo-like). Good for studying animal behaviour, particularly the 'lion pride'.
Plus points:
Wildlife reserve - though beware that some sensitive children may find the proximity of large animals a little scary (especially the lethal looking rhino!) Sea Lion show - short, sharp, informative and entertaining. Adventure playground - large and indeed very adventurous! Good and abundant facilities for eating picnic lunches.
Minus points:
Bit of a distance going between areas of the park - involved lots of fussing about with transport. Huge queue for boat trip - didn't even bother. Perhaps timing is an issue in this.
Overall:
