Yr 4 trip to HMS Belfast

by Teresa K on 19th November 2008
Department:
History
Year Group:
Year 4
Venue Region:
London
Town:
London
Summary:
We arrived mid to late morning, just in time for lunch on board ship, the chn enjoyed watching Tower bridge opening and waving to all the passing river traffic. We then took the chn around the ship discussing what we saw and what life must have been like. We had booked an educational session where we learned about what the role of the ship was during WWII and some chn were given the opportunity to wear some of the sailors uniform. Unfortunately the fire alarms were set off but all the ships staff ensured that we were safe and back into the classroom as soon as possible.
Finally we visited the souvenir shop and then began the journey home.
Venue: HMS Belfast ~ London
the chn had a great afternoon on board, the staff were friendly and very helpful, we took two disabled chn with us and although they couldn't experience everything they still really enjoyed the trip.
Benefit:
chn learned about the part HMS Belfast played during WWII, and began to understand what life for sailors would have been like.
Overall:
