What makes this a great venue for School group Fun or Educational Visits?

Take learning outside the classroom - choose our accredited museum with its diverse exhibitions programme for an enriching and inspiring day for the whole class. Experience the heyday of Grimsby's Fishing Heritage and discover what life was like in the 1950's. Climb aboard our ex-working Ross Tiger Trawler to complete your journey! Our trawler guides have first hand experience of life at sea and tell many a tale of the fishing journeys experienced. This really is the 'plaice' to be!

What are the Curriculum Topics or Benefit to the students from a visit?

Our museum has an excellent reputation for tailoring visits to match the specific needs of a school group. We want you to enjoy the experience and let our education team do all the work.

What are the activities?

Our accredited museum has a diverse exhibitions programme. Additionally, you can have a unique guided tour of the Ross Tiger Trawler, moored alongside the Fishing Heritage Centre, to complete your inspiring day! Our trawler guides have experienced first hand what life was like at sea and tell many a tale of their fishing journeys. We also have ‘Handling History’ boxes to compliment the tour, which incorporates artefacts that children can feel, try and discuss, and a range of cross-curricular workshops. Follow up packs are available to take back to the classroom.

Foundation stage - university,

What materials to you provide or suggest groups bring to support the visit?

KS2 'Seaquest' booklets and clipboards are available to accompany your Centre tour upon request. All materials are provided for our educational workshops.

What are the minimum and maximum group sizes and the free Teacher Ratio?

The maximum group size we can accomodate in our education room is 60, however please contact us to discuss your options if you wish to bring a larger group.

We ask for an adult to child ratio of the following:
KS1 1:6
KS2 1:8
KS3/4 1:10

Do you have or how do you arrange risk assessment?

We are able to provide a copy of our School Visit risk assessment upon request. Trip leaders are welcome to take advantage of our free familiarisation visits if they wish to prepare their own risk assessment.

Do you offer Teacher familiarisation days?

Yes - these are encouraged and are free of charge. Simply call a member of our Education team to arrange your visit.

What facilities are there for school groups for food and drink, shop etc?

Disabled facilities are in place and our café will be happy to cater for any special dietary requirements (with prior notice). We have an education room that can be used to store belongings and as a lunch area. Our gift shop stocks a wide range of gifts and souvenirs with many at pocket-money prices.

Is specific clothing required?

Sensible shoes are recommended in all seasons as the decks on the Ross Tiger can be uneven.

Do you have first aid on site?

Yes, first aid boxes are available and we have trained first aiders available.

Are there any restrictions on photos, copyright etc?

No - visitors are encouraged to record their trip.
