Killhope is an award winning attraction for a good day out and educational trip. We believe in the principles of learning through doing what ever the age, ability or weather.

What are the Curriculum Topics or Benefit to the students from a visit?

Killhope tailors our tours to your visit so whether you are studying history or science, geography or citizenship - the visit will adapt to you.

What are the activities?

Visit into Park level Mine - tour of the mine shop, a lodging shop for the miners. Mineral room, washing floor , where the students will be employed as Victorian washer boys, sorting and separating minerals with the use of Victorian tools. Woodland walk available on an extended tour flowing the water courses or maybe do some ecology

What is the age range of the activities?

4 and above - all tours are tailored to age and ability of the groups.

Mine Trip (1 hour) Mineshop ( 1/2 hour ) Washing Floor ( 1/2 hour ) Minerals & exhibitions (1/2 hour ) Lunch (1/2 Hour)

What materials to you provide or suggest groups bring to support the visit?

You can bring your own wellies for the mine trip or borrow ours - we have everything you need on site - we just suggest you bring sensible footwear and warm clothes

What are the minimum and maximum group sizes and the free Teacher Ratio?

Min Group size 10
Max Group size 110
1 free adult with every 14 students

Do you have or how do you arrange risk assessment?

Teachers can come free on site to do their own risk assessment. We have a hazard identification sheet to aid you in this task.

Do you offer Teacher familiarisation days?

Any day that a teacher wishes to come and visit - they just need to ring.

What facilities are there for school groups for food and drink, shop etc?

There is a shop on site - or we can make up goody bags - prior notice required. There is a cafe open during the season - a class sized picnic bench is available and a wet weather room. Students should be supervised at all times.

Is specific clothing required?

we suggest you bring sensible footwear and warm clothes. You will be outside what ever the weather.
