Pioneer Centre is part of the youth charity NAYC and has nearly 50 years experience in developing young people through sport and creative adventure activities in a caring, accepting and safe environment - sharing enthusiasm and building respect and self-esteem.

Pioneer Centre offers schools the finest residential facilities in the UK. Purpose built and specially designed, this impressive, contemporary, all en-suite, 25 acre centre offers groups of 12 to 300 an experience they'll never forget.

What are the Curriculum Topics or Benefit to the students from a visit?

From our Houseteam to the Instructors, from the admin staff to the kitchen team we approach our work with your young people from a youthwork perspective seeking to leave a lasting impression on their lives.

The benefits of taking part in physical activity are well documented, as are the benefits of pushing individual boundaries - trying something new - all within a team environment where safety and support are paramount. They will learn new things about themselves and their friends, even making new friends. Their social skills, ability to assess risk, team thinking and sense of self-worth will soar.

What are the activities?

High Ropes Courses, Low Ropes Courses, Indoor Caving System, Indoor Archery Ranges, Fencing, Challenge Course, Orienteering, Bird of Prey Sessions, Tropical Inc Sessions, Night Walks, Camp Fire, Bridge Building, Search'n'Rescue, Raft Building, Heated Outdoor Swimming Pool, Disco, Wide Games, Circus Skills, Night Line, Abseiling and Climbing.

What is the age range of the activities?

8 yrs +

What materials to you provide or suggest groups bring to support the visit?

All technical and safety equipment is provided. Suggested kit list available on-line.

What are the minimum and maximum group sizes and the free Teacher Ratio?

Min group size = 12 including teachers.
Max group size = 300 including teachers.
Schools recieve 1 free place for every 10 paying places. (1:10)

Do you have or how do you arrange risk assessment?

Risk assessments available upon request. Teachers will of course need to perform their own risk assessments for the journey and on our suitability for their needs.

Do you offer Teacher familiarisation days?

Teachers are very welcome to visit.

What facilities are there for school groups for food and drink, shop etc?

We offer full-board stays only with all meals freshly prepared on-site. We have healthy snack vending and drinks machines on-site too.

Is specific clothing required?

Waterproofs and wellies or old trainers recommended.

Do you have first aid on site?

Yes

Are there any restrictions on photos, copyright etc?

We have no restrictions but all visiting groups must ensure they have permission before taking photos of their children.
