What makes this a great venue for School group Fun or Educational Visits?

Quarry Bank Mill presents a unique opportunity to discover what life was like for Victorian children and how the Industrial Revolution changed people’s lives. Demonstrations of historic textile machinery, steam engines and the most powerful working waterwheel in Europe bring history to life. The Apprentice House allows students to experience what living conditions, education, punishment and food were like for children living here in the past.

Opportunity to study environmental science in an attractive, natural country park setting.

What are the minimum and maximum group sizes and the free Teacher Ratio?

Maximum size of group 250. No minimum except for the Apprentice House where the minimum is 15. Ratio of 1:8 for primary students / 1:10 for secondary students

Do you have or how do you arrange risk assessment?

Risk Assessment is sent out with our Confirmation documents.

Do you offer Teacher familiarisation days?

Free preliminary visits offered and consulation with Education staff available.

What facilities are there for school groups for food and drink, shop etc?

Lunch rooms available where schools can eat packed lunches / Pantry for purchase of snacks and hot and cold drinks.

Is specific clothing required?

Groups can come in Victorian costume – appropriate clothing for environmental sessions.

Do you have first aid on site?

Yes

Are there any restrictions on photos, copyright etc?

Photographs can be taken in the Mill. Photography is not permitted in the Apprentice House. A photo CD can be purchased.
